Questions To Ask References Supplied By Contractors

    By MSA Engineer | Remodeling | 0 comment | 11 August, 2017 | 0

Finding the right contractor to build your new home or to do some remodeling around your house can be a real challenge. How do you know that they will do a good job? How do you know that they will start and finish the job on time, and on or under budget? Are they covered by insurance should they be hurt on your job site?

Remodeling projects can range from small to large. However, no matter what the size of the project, every homeowner wants to have the best possible contractor working for him or her. The National Association of Remodeling Industry, a trade organization dedicated to promoting professionalism in the industry, suggests that every homeowner interviews potential contractors and asks for references. To protect yourself, always check the contractor’s references.  This is an essential stage of qualifying the right person for your project.

Below are some questions to ask references (previous customers):

    • How well were they able to communicate with the contractor about their project?
    • Were they happy with the quality of the work performed? (This is a tough question, however, since everyone defines “quality” differently.  It is much better to ask to see the completed project to determine the level of quality for yourself.)
    • Were they satisfied with the remodeler’s business practices?
    • Did the crew show up on time, were they courteous, did they clean up at the end of each day?
    • Were they comfortable with the trades’ people that the remodeler subcontracted to?
    • Was the job completed on schedule, and on or under budget?
    • Did the remodeler fulfill his or her contract?
    • Did the contractor stay in touch with the client throughout the project?
    • Were all final details finished in a timely manner?

And, probably the most important question of all: would you hire the remodeler again without hesitation?

To ensure that you receive quality work from the contractors that you hire, ask these questions. These will help you to hire the best people for the job.
