The Greenest Way To Go GREEN! (Evergreen That Is...)

“A great misconception that exists is that artificial Christmas trees are environmentally friendly,” says Bill Summers, Owner of Summers Christmas Tree Farm.  “The fact is, a vast majority of the artificial trees are made of plastic and other petroleum based products,” Summers says.  “Unfortunately, when the trees are no longer useful, they end up in landfills. And, there they stay for hundreds of years. When they eventually break down, they will end up in the water table. Not a healthy option.”

The Original…And Best Choice

On the other hand, a freshly cut tree is renewable, sustainable and completely recyclable. It smells great and has a great ‘feel’ when up and decorated.  And, after the holiday, natural trees, are usually recycled and used as mulch. Of course, mulch is bio-degradable and after a period of time, it breaks back down into the soil.

A Great Family Experience

A Christmas tree farm can deliver a wonderful family memory. Hiking through an evergreen forest to find the tree best for your home is an activity that can engage the entire family. Not only do you choose the perfect tree for your home complete with that unforgettable evergreen smell, you have cherished memories forever.  At Summers’ Christmas Tree farm, as well as many other farms, there are valued memories waiting to be made. For example, at Summers’ you can:

? Get “lost” hiking in the 140 acres of evergreen forest to find the perfect tree
? View/select Christmas trees from 1 to 12 feet tall
? Personally saw down the tree that is right for your home
? Drag the tree back to your car
? Take it home and decorate

One Month Of Fun

“There is no doubt in my mind I have one of the best jobs on earth,”  Summers adds. “We provide a great family experience, in the woods, away from the parking lot where it’s quiet and serene. In fact, last year, one of our customers, turned 80, and was tromping through the woods and dragging out her own tree.  She said ‘It’s the only way to do it.’”  Starting the day after Thanksgiving and running through December 24th at 5:00pm, it’s open season on Christmas trees!
