It Is That Time Of Year Again: Improve Your Curb Appeal

Make your home “pop” when you drive by and have it be a source of  pride.  Handyman Connection has the craftsmen to help you with any or all of these  projects.

Every spring marks the beginning of the Real Estate season, both buying and selling. Curb appeal is a term home sellers have often used when describing how attractive a home looks when driving up to a property.  Our opinion is improving curb appeal isn’t only for selling a house. After all, it’s your home… shouldn’t you be happy and proud of the way your home looks?

You can create a new look and add a little splash to your home. Following are a few ideas to get the “sprucing up process” started.

Evening Curb Appeal Means Lighting:

  • String low voltage lighting along your driveway, sidewalks, and near important landscaping elements
  • Add a decorative street lamp or an attractive light fixture to a front porch

Curb Appeal Boosters

  • Paint front door
  • Replace plain doorknob hardware with something more attractive
  • Install a new mailbox
  • Add shutters or awnings to your windows
  • Affix new house/street number
  • Replace outside light fixtures
  • Replace gutters and downspouts
  • Paint trim a new color
  • Clean windows and gutters- Pressure wash dirty siding and dingy decks
  • Edge sidewalks and remove vegetation growing between concrete or bricks
  • Kill mold and mildew on the house, sidewalks, roof, or driveway
  • Erect a tool shed or install organizers for your garage so you can stow away unnecessary garden implements, tools, etc.
  • Trim tree limbs that are near or touching the home's roof
  • Dress up the driveway—repair cracks and stains (and kill the weeds), then dress it up by coating, stenciling or staining the concrete or affixing flagstones, or if you need more room to move your car or park, add stone, brick, or pavers to the sides of the drive to widen it with flair
  • Upgrade railings—porch and stoop railings can deteriorate quickly if not treated properly. If your railings are past their prime, look for quality wood or metal components to replace the existing material.
