Further expanding the trend, you can bet less expensive versions of the fixtures will appear in other discount chains with wide distributions. The “trend” expands even further because the smaller domestic manufacturers supplying regional and local lighting stores will also have variations of similar fixtures as part of their offering, due in part to avoiding the risk of being too different and not selling enough volume.
“My experience tells me most homeowners want their own look, not what the majority of people are buying,” Woodward adds.
Expanding Ideas
To help you make sure you are seeing beyond the offerings made available through the largest chain stores, there are two options that can assist you in finding fixtures that set your home apart.
Option One: World Wide Web
“Often, we have customers searching the web for ideas,” says Woodward. “When customers bring in a picture from either an online catalog or of an existing room, it helps us out a great deal. Web research helps customers focus their ideas and the styles they like.”
Option Two: Custom Lighting Retailers
“Lighting options number in the thousands, if not tens of thousands,” Woodward estimates. “If you walk through Madison Lighting’s showroom, we have approximately 3,000 distinct fixtures. That is just the tip of the iceberg. While we are able to show a wide variety of fixtures, we also have catalogs related to the fixtures displayed, greatly expanding choices.”
