1.) The roof is part of a system including the roof itself, gutters, soffits, siding, ventilation and other systems within their home.
2.) Certainly, roofs can wear out over time. However, if your roof requires repair or replacement pre-maturely, there is a good chance something within the system is not functioning correctly and has accelerated the aging process. The reason these concepts are significant is all too often when replacing shingles. The homeowner and the contractors providing the quotes focus solely on the cost of the shingle replacement. But if there are other issues contributing to the problem, the same cycle will be repeated, and possibly accelerated.

SITUATION ANALYSIS
Roof problems can range from very simple to very complicated issues with multiple contributing factors. With that said, any contractor selling only one solution is probably not doing you any favors. By making a case for a single product, which may or may not be the solution to your problem, they may be doing you a disservice.
Casey's general process you (and your contractor) should follow is: 1.) Identify what the actual problem is with the roof.
2.) Diagnose any factors contributing to accelerated aging.
The diagnosis step includes, but is not limited to reviewing ventilation, soffit, gutter & drainage, siding, internal air quality (humidifiers, exhaust fans, etc.), and so on.
3.) Create a correction plan including any contributing factors along with the roof repair.
