Wood Floors And Cabinets: Helping Them Be Greener

Cleaning and treating wood with the right materials and tools can unlock luster and beauty your woodwork has not shown in years.

Green flooring is a great concept. Using renewable cork or other species makes a lot of sense when you are starting from scratch.  But, what do you do if you already have wood floors or cabinetry in place? Do you tear them out and start over?

“I think the last thing most people want to do is to rip out existing woodwork, whether its flooring or cabinetry, especially when they know it will end up in a landfill,” says Nick Ringelstetter of N-HanceWood Renewal.

“What we focus on is making the most of existing woodwork through renewing its natural qualities and beauty,” Ringelstetter says. “The N-Hance process conserves existing floors and cabinets instead of replacing them with diminishing natural resources.”

The Process:  Primary Elements

?  Treating finish, either removing it or cleaning it completely with water-based polyurethane. The compound used has low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (V.O.C.s), which can aggravate allergies or cause more violent reactions. The low toxicity levels are inherently safer and are well under the safety levels established by the EPA.

?  Using a wet abrasion system, the dirt, and broken down finish is removed. This cleaning process is virtually dust free, keeping the air in your home safe. Traditional sanding, stripping and sealing produce a great deal of dust and higher amount of V.O.C.’s which can cause problems for those with allergies or sensitivities to the dust and fumes.

?  Continued use of flooring and cabinetry promotes the conservation of existing materials.  This means less material being sent to landfills than when new replacement flooring or cabinets are purchased and installed.

The great thing is we can usually get the job done in one day or less. No Dust. No Mess. No Odor. I enjoy being able to provide a better product, that is healthy and contributes to protecting the environment.  And the floors and cabinets look great. It doesn’t get better than that.  Nick Ringelstetter, N-HanceWood Renewal
